Most people do Cambridge in a day. Train in. Photo outside King’s. Punt. Leave.
They saw it. They didn’t feel it.
This is your slow travel guide to Cambridge. 🌿
MILL ROAD The beating heart of Cambridge actually exists on Mill Road. Independent grocers. Coffee shops. Bookshops. A zero-waste store. Zero chains.
Every pound you spend here stays local. That’s slow travel.
Don’t miss: 🌿 Arjuna Wholefoods – Cambridge’s original zero-waste wholefood shop, open since 1970 🌿 Al Casbah – authentic North African cuisine, been here for decades. The queue is worth it 🌿 Black Cat Café – cult following for their cooked breakfasts. Sit outside and watch Mill Road go by 🌿 Relevant Records Café – vinyl, good coffee, live music upstairs. Very Mill Road 🌿 Hot Numbers – live music and events on selective evenings. Check their calendar before you go: Hot Numbers Events here.
CHERRY HINTON PARK 20 minutes from the city. Almost always quiet.
12 hectares of Victorian parkland, an interactive tree trail and adjacent to the park you’ll find the the Cherry Hinton Chalk Pits – a nature reserve home to rare wildflowers including the Moon Carrot.
Free to enter. Watch the ducks. Soak up the stillness. Remember what it feels like to do absolutely nothing.
Pick up a picnic from Fitzbillies and head over. You won’t regret it. 🌿
CAMBRIDGE BOTANICAL GARDENS The most peaceful hour you’ll spend in Cambridge.
40 acres of living, breathing calm located close to the train station. Wander the glasshouses, find a bench by the lake, lose track of time completely.
The Garden Café does excellent coffee and locally baked cakes. Take a book. Do a digital detox. Even just for an hour. Book your ticket here!
